Oil, Acrylic and Repurposed Plastic Water Bottle Butterflies on
Canvas

Inspired by Hitoshi Sugimoto’s Brush Impression “Heart Sutra”,
and the paintings of Daniel Adele, ‘Kintsugi’ is a oil, acrylic and
repurposed plastic water bottle butterflies on canvas 200cm x
70cm.
Mark making on the 520 butterflies using tips from a plumbago
bush for the calligraphy inspired marks of the sutra.
The repurposed plastic water bottles, a direct reference to
Sugimoto’s appreciation of objects beyond their ‘shelf-life’,
reversing their fate.

The material works is itself emptiness.
Emptiness is itself the material world.
